Linking Strategy for Social Networking Sites

Do you have a blog account, a multiply account or any other type of online presence via a free social networking service, like Friendster?

Many people do not realize that the best way to increase traffic to your site is through one simple strategy... increasing the number of links to your website. Yes it is that simple, too simple that it is often overlooked by most bloggers, web enthusiasts and seasoned internet marketers. Links allow people to find your site, this way old friends can find you if you happen to have a link of sites of your friends and contacts. It is also a great way of expanding your network.

One of the best features that Multiply has, and is underutilized is its linking feature. Where you can create a link to your favorite sites or favorite profiles.

It is easy to do. Follow these simple steps.

1. While on your main page, click the +Post icon on the upper right portion of your page.

2. Next, you will be asked what it is you want to post, select LINK, which is the second icon from the right.

3. On the next page your will be prompted to ad the link to page you wish to link to, an example of a URL is this, http://30snew20s.multiply.com, that is a URL to my main profile page on multiply, each one of us has that unique URL. Enter the URL of the page you want to link to.

4. On the next page you will be prompted for other details such as:

  a. Title - this refers to the title of the link you are adding, using the example of my URL earlier, you can simply enter in the title my name which is "Roy Sencio"

   b. Description - this is a brief description of the link, this is the phrase that usually appears when you mouse over the link or point your mouse on the link, using the example above, you can maybe enter in this space "Roy Sencio's Multiply Profile"

   c. Tag - is simply a word or phrase that acts as a category for that link, so using the example again above, you can use as a tag "Friends on Multiply" or simply, "Friends"

5. After that, click Save & Publish and that link will immediately be added to your main profile page.

What are the effects of doing this?
1. You increase traffic and visitors coming from other profiles, or websites, hence increasing your network, hook up with old friends and well, make new contacts.

2. It is important what "Title" you indicate, because there are plenty of links pointing to your profile for example, and the title used for these links is your full name, the effect is... whenever someone searches for your using your name on a search engine, your profile will be quickly and easily found.
